Traineeship program receives fitting farewell

On the 23rd July, an exhibition and event, titled Finally, was staged to provide a fitting farewell to the SpeakOut Traineeship and Orbit programs.

Through art, conversation and multimedia presentations, Finally described and celebrated the achievements of the dynamic and enormously successful programs and their participants.

13 past trainees exhibited their work, showcasing their skills through various mediums, such as – film, illustration, photography, installation, painting, and animation.

Over the past 7 years the Traineeship and Orbit programs have supported more than 140 young people to overcome disadvantage and change their world through creativity, access to training, supported employment and personal support.

Despite its success, insufficient funding resulted in the decision to discontinue the program.

Numerous people attended Finally and all commented on the high standard of the work, and the high impact and success of the programs.

2009 Trainee graduate, Reuben Bristed, commented, “I have enjoyed the patience and knowledge I was bestowed here. Give them more funding!”

Multimedia artist and 2006 graduate Kat Barker stated, “the personal and professional support received, gave me confidence and inspiration, skills and techniques, propelling me to start my own multi-media business in 2007.”

Kat Barker also produced the short documentary of the Traineeship program which was screened at Finally and is displayed above.
