The Gathering 09 described as “most successful” ever held
From 9th to 12th September, The Gathering 09 brought together more than 200 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and teachers from all over Australia.
The event, coordinated and produced by Human Ventures, is an initiative of the Indigenous Youth Leadership Program (IYLP) and involved networking opportunities and leadership development sessions.
The Gathering aims to:
- foster a sense of community amongst IYLP participants;
- provide a safe space for discussion about various social, cultural and issues of importance;
- inspire and expose IYLP scholars to role models and potential mentors; and,
- empower and support IYLP Scholars to articulate and deconstruct various worldviews and leadership styles, more importantly their own.
Key stakeholders involved with the event, since its inception four years ago, described The Gathering 09 as “the most successful Gathering since the beginning of IYLP”.
Delegates were also overwhelmingly positive with one attendee stating, “I had heaps of fun, learnt many new things and I would definitely like to do it again!”
