Creative Pathways Off to a Frolicking Start in 2013

Through the Young Arts Worker initiative, 2013 will continue to see young creatives from Western Queensland being integrated into our professional team to learn facilitation and community engagement skills.  In doing so, they will deliver workshops in their chosen creative areas as well as support the overall coordination of the Creative Pathways workshops.

Already this year we have seen the initiative in full swing through 20 year old dancer, Glenn Frost.

Glenn was born and raised in Blackall before moving to Roma in 2010 thanks to a scholarship from the Edrine Keegan School of Dance.  Glenn was a Creative Pathways program participant and one of the core young people who developed the Shockwave Festival idea in 2008.

In May last year Glenn returned to dance at the Shockwave Festival and was so moved by the growth of the program, in particular the Shockwave festival. He was overwhelmed at the level of ownership the kids from his hometown showed that he expressed interest in working with our crew in 2013 to deliver dance workshops for the first time.

Last week Glenn ran dance workshops with our team in Blackall. Here’s what he had to say about the opportunity;

“It was a very rewarding experience giving back to the community and youth of Blackall and I think it was very positive for my personal development. I was being mentored as a student as well as being treated equally as a facilitator… the whole experience was excellent!”

Glenn will be returning to run more workshops and feature as a dancer at the 2013 Shockwave Festival in May.

Join us for a day of fitness and fun!

Local business Crossfit Equipped is hosting a Charity Day Fundraiser for our very own Human Ventures on Sunday 14 October 2012 hosted at HaMMA Arena at Brisbane’s Bowen Hills.

The day will consist of two separate workouts, which will be contested by 25 teams of four people, one of whom must be new to crossfit.

There are great prizes on offer, a BBQ and face painting for the kids.  Generally a great day out for those looking for a healthy lifestyle while supporting an excellent cause!

Australian weightlifters Ben Turner and Damon Kelly will be in attendance to cheer on the teams and we hear that there may even be massages on offer!

Check out the Crossfit blog for more details and we will see you there Sunday!

‘we are Human’ manifesto published

manifestoA document that will underpin the philosophy and practices of soon to be established company, Human Ventures (Human), was published today.

Titled, the ‘we are Human’ manifesto, the document highlights the challenges we face as humans and also offers aspirations and hope for the future.

The manifesto suggests that “the greatest evil is the lack of love and charity, the terrible indifference toward one’s neighbour”, and that the path of peace and hope is in realising we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Read more
