Shockwave wins joint-runner up in national Music In Communities Awards!
The Shockwave Festival has once again been recognized for its success as a community event, by being awarded joint-runner up in the National Music In Communities Awards 2011.
“The opportunity for Shockwave to be recognised as a leading community event twice in one year, not only in Queensland but Australia is credit to all involved. The ongoing commitment and shared ownership by young participants and festival partners makes this event a relevant and valuable experience for all, and we’re really excited about this award,” said Shockwave Producer, Brooke Newall.
The 2011 awards had a theme of Local Links, with praise for Shockwave’s work in this area. Special mention was given to the Festival’s creative skills and enterprise development, showcasing opportunities for local emerging and established artists, and widespread community partnerships.
The awards focus on the promotion and reward of “community music initiatives which improve Australia’s cultural life.”
The 2011 winner, The Moorambilla Voices and Festival took home the top prize of $5000, while the Shockwave Festival and its co-runner up the Emmy Monash ‘Generations In One Voice’, were awarded $2500 each.
The awards are run by the Music Council of Australia’s national Music In Communities Network and the offer a total prize pool of $10,000..
