Creative Pathways back in the Central West
The Creative Pathways team are heading back to the Central West for more creative arts workshops, including graphic design, drama, film & multimedia, zine-making and stencilling.
The team will also be holding community events, in both Blackall and Longreach, to share stories about this year’s Shockwave and to talk about next year’s festival.
“This years festival was just amazing,” said Creative Pathways Coordinator, Steph Vajda.
“People really had a great time, young people were able to express themselves creatively and everyone was very enthusiastic about what Shockwave is achieving for young people in the region.”
The whole community are invited to these free events that will happen in Longreach on the 17th July from 6.30pm in the Longreach Youth Club and in Blackall on the 20th July from 6.30pm at Memorial Hall. Each event will include food and drinks and anyone interested in the Shockwave Festival is welcome.
“These events will not only be about celebrating this years Shockwave,” suggest Steph, “but also talking about ideas for next years event that build upon what we’ve achieved this year.”
On Saturday 17 July, from 1pm until 5pm, young people in Longreach should make their way down to the Youth Club to participate in drama, film, multimedia, zine making and stencilling workshops. The workshops then continue on Sunday from 10am until 3pm.
The Human Ventures team then make their way to Blackall. Young people can similarly participate in drama, film, multimedia, zine making and stencilling workshops in Memorial Hall after school on Wednesday to Friday and on Saturday the 24th of July from 10am til 3pm. The team will then be in Tambo for the day on
Sunday 25th July in the Tambo Hall.
In Blackall young people can also participate in graphic design workshops. These workshops are part of the Design Hub initiative currently being scoped and developed by Human Ventures, in collaboration with Blackall-Tambo Regional Council and CICADAS. This initiative aims to allow young people to learn graphic design skills within a small business, which will endeavour to deliver commercial design services for clients in the Central West region.
In addition to these workshops, Human Ventures will continue with the Young Entrepreneurs Program, supporting young people’s ideas for enterprise projects.
“We’re really keen to continue working with young people who may have a vision for some form of community project, event or even a micro-business,” outlines Steph. “We also have many ideas that have been generated by local community workers so that even if you don’t have your own concept, you can still participate and learn great skills to develop and launch a business idea.”
Young Entrepreneurs is about helping young people to better understand and develop skills in enterprise by focusing on social enterprise opportunities that can provide some benefit to the Central West region.
Creative Pathways in the Central West creative arts and enterprise workshops and showcase series is currently supported by: The Fairfax Foundation, Jupiters Community Benefit Fund, Blackall-Tambo Regional Council, Regional Arts Fund, Longreach Youth Development Office, Longreach Arts Council, RAPAD, CICADAS and Human Ventures.
